Part 3: Button It!

or

Button, Button--Who's Got The Pussy REPORT Button?

by guest writer
Micky McBile

When we last left our hero he was just about to be smitten three times with the accursed Pussy Button of Report...and...

"Grandpa, wake up! Finish the story."

(cough! cough! drool) ...but what happened to him next was almost impossible to believe, little ones.

Some shameless he/she TesNexus suck-up did smite him once, they did smite him twice, they did smite him thrice within a matter of moments for his three consecutive posts (Shining Prince AcerMore types very fast, you see) with their mighty and magically accursed REPORT Button--and then, and I know you won't believe what happened next, children--but--but--!

Yes, I know this is going to be hard to understand, but--but--his MEMBERship was cut off and then the unwashed brainwashed minions all stomped upon it with great glee (and that hurts something fierce, let me tell ya.) (And that's also what you call a Soupy Sales-type comment, for your future info.)

So, without due process and against his mighty will (I might add) Prince AcerMore was gagged securely; bound hand and foot he was bodily removed from the Black Castle of obNoxious and taken to the gates of the Shadow Kingdom of Self-Importance; and thrown out. (But, as so often happens in life if you but take note, everything wasn't all bad, for, while AcerMore didn't relish it that much himself personally, at least the admins enjoyed their hands-on experience.)

(zzzzz...)

"Grandpa!"

(zzzzz...)

"Grandpa's asleep again!"

Please join me next time, on our regular Monday, for Part 4:

Mauled By A Frenchman

I Got Claude

  1. I agree with your reasoning outlined in the November posts.

I resisted the urge to buy Oblivion on the Xbox because I knew the scaling design would ruin the game for me. Now that I have a computer I can run Oblivion on, I want to put the best content on for my first play through.

I don't want to waste time testing them. I don't even really want to know what is in them to the extent that would reveal any spoilers about the plot.

You surrender the right to control anything you make on the construction set when you tick of the "agree to Terms" box. Once you make it available to the public, it belongs to the public (or Bethesda, if they choose to exert certain rights reserved in the afore mentioned terms).

I would think of it like a mural painted in a public place. If the painter’s intent was to make art for art's sake, then that is a good place to paint; so the most number of people can see it. If the painter wants people to get his permission before they look at his mural, he shouldn't have put in a public place.

That said, recognition for hard work & the admiration of one's peers for a job well done is a reasonable expectation. Giving credit for hard work would be a common courtesy. The enforcement of courteous conduct may well fall within the appropriate powers of a forum moderator, depending on the moderator.

On the other hand, a moderator or administrator oversteps their bounds when they exert power on behalf of a third party to protect rights that that third party does not have. In this case: the right of a TESCS user to withhold permission from the public to do what they will with content produced with the TESCS.

  2. Errata for my previous comment:

The sentence, "The enforcement of courteous conduct may well fall within the appropriate powers of a forum moderator, depending on the moderator." should have ended, "...depending on the forum."

Also, the metaphor comparing a publicly released mod to a mural in a public space, I meant to go on to point out that if you put a painting in a public space, you can't get to outraged if someone else decides to paint something else on top of it. Even if you don't like their "improvements", that is the expected risk of putting something out in public.
